Reconnecting with your authentic self

Updated: Jul 6, 2023

We all have programming from our surroundings and upbringing that is our safe place, and what is familiar. But often this is not where we find the most joy or fulfillment in life. Part of the self discovery work is remembering who we authentically are, and becoming unapologetic about this.

A quick and easy way to find your truest authentic self - the version of you that lights your soul up every. single. day. Is to find your True Self pillars. * This method is inspired by To Be Magnetic and their authentic code process.

Your True Self

Living for someone else or by societal standards and norms does not produce happiness or fulfillment in life. Living authentically in your core essence does. At first this may not seem comfortable especially if you've been in people pleasing modes, or living for someone else's version of you. But you begin to feel the power inside of you and strength of who you truly are as you live your True Self pillars.

Take some time to discover your authenticity. What are your non negotiables, what are your values, what are your boundaries? This will help and become your north star as you navigate life.

Here are my True Self pillars, as of the time of this post:

  • freedom (financial, travel, expression, work, decisions, etc.)

  • spiritual expression & growth (not being scared of judgment for my spirituality)

  • creation (creating content, new ideas, and letting creation flow through me)

  • health (feeling optimal, listening to my body, vitality)

It is important to not think we need to stay in a dogma with strict rules of who we are. We are human, we are malleable, we are meant to have experiences and change. Your True Self will change as you evolve into new versions of yourself. For example my original four pillars were:

  • freedom (financial freedom, work freedom, travel freedom, etc.)

  • self-love (learning to love myself, flaws and all)

  • learning (growing, evolving and challenging myself)

  • tribe (creating community)

Once you have yours, you will be able to use this as a north star for your decision making moving forward. An example of this would be - does my current career align with my True Self, or am I compromising an authentic part of who I am?

Before you begin to answer these questions take some deep breaths and begin to relax.

For each question below, write 3 answers from most relevant to least. No need to overthink, let your intuition guide you. You will begin to see themes. Look for common words and themes and find the four most common ones. Note these four and create your True Self Pillars.
